New BMT Race Directors Named 11/6/2014 by:BMT Board The Board of Directors of the Boulder Mountain Tour is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Race Directors to manage the 40th Boulder Mountain Tour. The race will take place on February 7, 2015 in Sun Valley Idaho.
Kelly and Glen Allison have assumed the helm as Co-Race Directors. They take over from Kevin Swigert, who successfully ran the Boulder Mountain Tour for 13 years. Kelly Allison, a Ketchum native, grew up on skis, although not the skinny variety. She has morphed from being an alpine and telemark racing to Masters Nordic racing. Glen Allison has been a photographer in the valley for over 30 years and is an avid alpine, backcountry and Nordic skier. He taught Kelly to Nordic ski and hasn’t been able to keep up since.
“We are thrilled to have this dynamic duo running the Boulder Mountain Tour,” said Bob Rosso, the BMT Board President. “They will bring new innovations and energy to an already great race.”
While no major changes to the race are planned, racers will enjoy some enhancements to the experience. Half Boulder skiers will have the option to be timed should they wish, and full Boulder skiers will have the option to enter the “40th Wave,” an untimed wave for those looking to enjoy more of a tour experience rather than a race. In addition, should funding be found, a heated tent will be set up over the deck at Galena Lodge to alleviate crowding. Anyone wishing to help fund this endeavor, whether through a private donation or a business sponsorship, is asked to contact Kelly at email@example.com.
“Glen and I are excited to take on what we consider to be THE anticipated community event of winter,” said Kelly. “We hope to slowly grow the event over time while keeping the heart and soul of the Boulder Mountain Tour intact.”
The Boulder Mountain Tour, which first took place in 1974, is the longest running Marathon Nordic race in North America. The race runs 34.3 kilometers down a scenic valley in the shadow of the Boulder Mountains. It caps off the week-long Sun Valley Nordic Festival, which encompasses a variety of activities related to cross country skiing.
